Júlia Koltai is a sociologist and survey statistician by training. She is a research fellow at the Centre for Social Sciences, CSS-Recens research group with the Premium Postdoctoral Fellowship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In part-time she is an assistant professor at the Eötvös Loránd University at the Faculty of Social Sciences and visiting professor at the Central European University, Department of Network and Data Science. She received her Ph.D at ELTE University in 2013, her dissertation dealt with the use of innovative mathematical methods in the social sciences. Her main research areas are quantitative analysis and methods, statistics, and network research. For the past five years, she has focused on the applications of big data analysis in social sciences. Her research included the analysis of networks and large scale textual data (natural language processing) with neural network based word embedding language models. She worked with a large amount of text data, from sources like Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. She is the author of more than 30 book chapters and journal articles, such as those published in Social Networks or the International Journal of Sociology.
