The Artificial Intelligence National Laboratory (MILAB) aims to strengthen Hungary's position in AI. The international and domestic environment of AI is characterized by competition for professionals, opportunities for disruption, and quick product launch time. The European Union is making serious efforts to catch up with US and Chinese development capabilities.
As a response, MILAB is founded in 2020 as the coordinated national artificial intelligence umbrella for the collaboration of all major research centers, universities and large-scale national programs. We funnel business needs and international research relations by leveraging on the existing relationship of our partner institutions. We strengthen social innovation to embrace technological innovation.
Research in MILAB is initiated by integrating flagship projects in medical image processing, transportation, manufacturing, logistics, and by relying on internationally renowned Hungarian mathematicians and physicists among others in the areas of graph theory and network science.
Objectives and Tasks of MILAB
Funding for flagship basic and applied research projects (publications, patents, emerging industrial relations, technology transfer).
Networking, strengthening synergies between actors, representing competencies in industry and international projects.
International relations, interconnected research ecosystem.
Source multiplication, funding for risky or high societal utility research
Coordination with market and application needs, organization of demos and conferences.
The MILAB research plan follows the Hungarian National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (2020-2030) and implements its research components. Stakeholder needs and requirements from industry, society and government are considered in the cooperation of the MILAB Project Office and the Hungarian Artificial Intelligence Coalition Program Office.
