Recent advances in optimization, a report on SIAM OP23
The aim of the upcoming seminar is to draw attention to some of the papers presented at the SIAM OP23 conference . The central topic of the conference was optimization in general, however several talks exhibited varying degrees of connection to deep learning, with some being loosely connected while others demonstrated a close association. The focal points of these papers revolve around nowadays popular aspects such as implicit bias, generalization, convergence and stability of gradient descent and its variants within or related to the realm of deep learning.
